The primary calculation is determining the volume of concrete needed. This is based on the volume of a cylinder. The formula for the volume of a cylinder is:

Volume = π * radius² * height

Where:

  • π (pi) is approximately 3.14159

Since the diameter is typically given in inches, we convert it to feet by dividing by 12. The result is the volume in cubic feet.

The rebar length calculation estimates the total length of rebar required. It calculates the length of each vertical rebar (equal to the total height of the concrete column) and multiplies it by the estimated number of rebars. The number of rebars is a rough estimate. Rebar Length Calculation:

Total Rebar Length = (Height + Frost Depth) * Number of Rebars
